Police are looking for a man who threatened a disabled Amble man and then attacked his wife with a hammer.
The man approached the couple in the Gloster Park area of the town while the woman was helping her disabled husband from their car. He demanded money, entered their house and then assaulted the 52-year-old woman.
She suffered facial injuries plus bruising to her arms and body. She was taken to Wansbeck Hospital, where her condition is described as stable. Her 68-year-old husband was knocked from his wheelchair but is uninjured.

Springhill and Alnwick Town Reserves will battle it out for the Robson Cup after winning semi-finals at the weekend.
Springhill coped better with the conditions to beat Alnmouth United 3-0. Mark Reid gave the visitors a half-time lead while a Daniel Carey own goal and Andrew Skelly's third wrapped up the win. Alnwick beat Wooler 2-0 through Neil McFall and Stephen Hogg.
The Northumberland Sea Fisheries Committees have prosecuted three people for capturing undersized lobsters.
Mr D McLaughlin from New York, North Tyneside, was fined £100 and ordered to pay £200 costs after admitting catching four undersized lobsters at Seaton Sluice while John Brown of Amble was fined £115 and £200 costs for landing 27 undersized animals at Amble last October.
Steven Marston, of North Seaton, admitted landing 23 undersized lobsters and was fined £115 and £200 costs. Robert Baxter, from Blyth denied obstructing a fishery officer but was found guilty, fined £60 and ordered to pay £200 costs.

A school in Northumberland has been issued with a "notice to improve" following a poor Ofsted inspection.
Coquet High School, in Amble, was visited by Ofsted last month and a report of their findings has just been published.

The report says the school is performing "significantly less well" than expected, and criticises its leadership and the students' achievement in core subjects.
A tree planting ceremony will take place next week to celebrate the inauguration of the new Northumberland County Council.
Council leader Jeff Reid and chief executive Steve Stewart will be planting an oak tree in the grounds of County Hall, Morpeth, on Wednesday at 1pm.
They will also be officially raising the new county council flag.
Meanwhile, residents across the county can still give their opinions on how they would like the new-look authority to tackle problems in their community.
£5,640 is being given to the Country Trust to provide an environmental education project for primary school children from Tyneside and Wearside.
The money has been handed out by green support services provder eaga with the help of the Newcastle-based Community Foundation for environmental projects in the North East.

The children will visit farms in North Northumberland to study sustainability, food production, conservation, crop seasonality and reducing food miles.
The Farne Islands have been voted Northumberland's top beauty spot.
In the latest poll on the Your Place community websites, the Farnes got 27% of the votes, ahead of Lindisfarne (22%) and the Cheviots (17%).
Votes also went to Bolam Lakes, Crag Lough, Allen Banks, Druridge Bay and Kielder Water.
