The stakes for the steaks will be high when a Northumberland restaurant lets customers eat for free on the flip of a coin.

The risky venture is limited to one night only and the restaurateurs are hoping it will promote their winter menu and get punters through the door.

Service for refurbished Amble war memorial

Amble Town Council are inviting people to attend a service to rededicate one of the town's major landmarks.

Parts of the 85-year-old Amble Clock Tower War Memorial were in need of repair and an extensive refurbishment has been carried out with help from English Heritage and the Wolffson Foundation.

The monument, which is managed by the Town Council, was originally unveiled in 1924, with representatives of the country's forces, including the Northumberland Fusiliers, present for the occasion.

Hauxley exhibition marks 80 years since fishermen's deaths

The deaths of three young Northumberland fishermen at sea 80 years ago will be marked by a special exhibition brought together by the niece of one of the lost men.

George Taylor, Richard Armstrong and Andrew Allen Oliver, who lived at Hauxley, near Amble, were never seen again after their coble was caught in a storm in November 1929.

The tragedy rocked the close-knit village, and now the niece of one of the men has organised an exhibition to commemorate the 80th anniversary of their deaths.
